Wildfire Mitigation in Mountains Using Pine-Based Bio-Composite in India
Wildfire Mitigation in Mountains Using Pine-Based Bio-Composite in India
Socio implementador: Build Change
Project name: Mitigating Wildfires in High-Mountain Regions by Repurposing Causative Pine Needles into Low- Cost, Thermal-Resistant, Bio-Composite Building Materials for Extreme Temperatures
High-altitude regions face recurring wildfires fuelled by flammable pine needles, poor housing insulation, and extreme cold.
This project develops a cost-effective, thermal-resistant bio-composite from pine needles and mucilage-rich biomass.
This innovation will be validated and scaled to reduce wildfire hazards, enhance climate-resilient housing, and reinforce disaster risk reduction, empowering vulnerable mountain communities to adapt to escalating environmental challenges through sustainable, locally sourced solutions.

Impacto y conclusiones principales
1
This project reduces wildfire risk by removing flammable pine needles from forests, helping preserve mountain ecosystems while reinforcing fire safety infrastructure, reducing environmental degradation, and enhancing climate resilience in high-altitude, hazard-prone regions.
2
It improves housing insulation in mountain regions through cost-effective, heat-resistant bio-composites, bolstering protection against extreme cold while reducing reliance on carbon-intensive materials and promoting sustainable, climate-adaptive construction in vulnerable high-altitude communities.
3
It promotes circular economy and resilient infrastructure by transforming forest waste into robust construction materials, enhancing sustainable development, minimizing environmental degradation, and supporting disaster risk reduction in high-altitude, ecologically sensitive mountain regions.
