Seismic Resilience of Social and Critical Infrastructure in India

Socio implementador: Build Change

Project name: Resilience of Social and Critical Infrastructure against Seismic Hazard using Markov Chain

The Barak Valley in Northeast India faces elevated seismic vulnerability, yet critical infrastructure remains largely unassessed for resilience.

This study introduces a data-driven framework using Markov Chain analysis to model infrastructure response to earthquakes, incorporating structural integrity, interdependencies, and redundancy.

It generates location-specific insights to inform disaster preparedness and response strategies, enabling policymakers to strengthen resilience and advance global efforts in disaster risk reduction across seismic-prone regions.

Impacto y conclusiones principales

1

This study strengthens disaster preparedness by modelling infrastructure responses to seismic stress, helping authorities pinpoint real-time vulnerabilities and prioritize retrofitting, emergency planning, and resource allocation to better protect communities in earthquake-prone regions.

2

It enhances resilience planning by unifying structural, social, and network interdependencies into a single model, enabling evidence-based decisions that reinforce infrastructure continuity and public safety across complex, high-risk environments.

3

The study offers a scalable framework for earthquake-prone regions, advancing national and global resilience goals by tailoring infrastructure plans to local contexts, enhancing safety, operational stability, and long-term disaster preparedness in vulnerable communities.
