Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) pose significant threats to ecosystems, infrastructure, and lives due to accelerated glacier melting induced by climate change. This study leverages community insights to strengthen GLOF resilience and mitigation frameworks in the Indian Himalayas. It involves co-creating protocols for GLOF mitigation with communities through workshops and tools such as participatory photography and integrating their perspectives into GLOF risk mitigation strategies. The study's findings will inform targeted mitigation efforts and policies on land use, infrastructure, and disaster risk reduction in GLOF-prone areas. It will enhance community awareness and preparedness to GLOF events.
