Project name: Strengthening Institutional and Technical Capacity for Climate Resilient Transport Infrastructure Development in PNG 
The project supports the government of Papua New Guinea in developing climate-resilient transport infrastructure by strengthening vulnerable roads and bridges while ensuring that new designs withstand future climate challenges.

A climate risk and vulnerability assessment method has been piloted to enable precise data collection and analysis, guiding investment decisions and road design standards.

The project strengthens the capacity of the Department of Works and Highways, empowering them in risk-informed planning and climate-resilient operation and maintenance of the national road network.

This project enhances the technical and institutional capacity of the Government of Papua New Guinea (GoPNG) to integrate climate resilience into road infrastructure planning, transitioning from traditional practices to adaptive, future-ready approaches.

By advancing guidelines, standards, and training programmes, the project strengthens the resilience of PNG’s road network against climate and disaster risks, benefitting both government staff and private sector stakeholders involved in infrastructure development.

The project ensures long-term resilience by climate-proofing road designs and operational manuals, aligning with the Connect PNG programme’s infrastructure investments. This will ultimately improve access to essential services, benefiting the entire population.

Alpana heads institutional partnerships, governance, and resource mobilization at CDRI, advancing cross-sector collaborations that drive resilient infrastructure programming across Member Countries and organizations. With over 25 years of experience spanning international development, global health, and the non-profit sector, she brings deep expertise in fundraising strategy, donor engagement, and delivering strategic change. 

At CDRI, Alpana has been pivotal in forging strategic alliances with governments, international organizations, and philanthropies. She also plays a key role in fortifying institutional systems and board governance mechanisms as the Coalition transitions into an international organization. 

Before joining CDRI, Alpana held senior leadership roles at The George Institute for Global Health, Plan India, WaterAid India, and SOS Children’s Villages, leading institutional fundraising and cultivating strategic partnerships for social impact. 

She holds a Master’s in Finance & Control from Aligarh Muslim University and completed Executive Education at Harvard Business School (CSR India). Her work is driven by a commitment to building enduring, values-based partnerships that accelerate sustainable development outcomes.
