Implementing Partner: Caribbean Water and Wastewater Association

Project name:Kingston Metropolitan Area Water Utility Infrastructure Disaster Mitigation & Climate Change Resilience Programme

The project seeks to enhance Jamaica’s ability to plan and implement climate resilient investments in Kingston’s Metropolitan Area’s water infrastructure.

It will conduct a detailed assessment of the Yallahs-Mona and Hermitage-Constant systems, analyzing hazards, vulnerabilities, and risks to inform investment decisions.

Additionally, it will develop a risk-informed business case with recommendations, preliminary designs, and a financing strategy, supported by a monitoring framework to ensure scalable adaptation across the region for long-term resilience.

Impact

1

The project will provide uninterrupted water access to over 110,000 people in Kingston and nearby areas, minimizing supply disruptions during droughts and hazards while strengthening resilience against slippage, pipeline failures, and intake breakdowns for long-term water security.

2

Vulnerability assessments of the Yallahs-Mona and Hermitage-Constant systems will shape resilient infrastructure planning, influence policy reforms, and advance sustainable water management and land-use practices in high-risk areas, ensuring long-term environmental and operational stability.

3

The project will empower communities by involving at least 50 women per community in water-related decision-making, ensuring reliable supply for sanitation and health, while creating 150 jobs with a strong gender-equity focus to drive inclusive development.
