In response, the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority collaborated with CDRI to assess landslide risks along key Shimla roads. The study identified challenges like poor drainage, human-induced slope instability, and fragile geology.
Technical assistance was recommended to identify short, medium, and long-term measures that combine engineering solutions (such as retaining walls and drainage systems) with Nature-based Solutions (vegetative cover and bioengineering). Policy messages emphasized proactive risk assessment, hybrid approaches, improved drainage, and community engagement.
This report concludes that integrated strategies and resilient infrastructure planning are crucial for reducing landslide risks amid increasing extreme weather events.
