Multi-Hazard Risk Indexing of Coastal Critical Infrastructure in Thailand

Implementing Partner: Build Change

Project name:Multi-Hazard Risk Indexing of Coastal Critical Infrastructure in Thailand

This project investigates the impact of multiple hazards—such as floods, cyclones, tsunamis, and coastal erosion—on critical coastal infrastructure along Thailand’s eastern and western seaboards.

By assessing the risks and vulnerabilities faced by both existing and future infrastructure, the study aims to strengthen protective measures and resilience strategies.

The research directly supports improved risk management and sustainable development in Thailand’s Eastern Economic Corridor, a key hub for economic growth and investment.

Impact and Key Findings

1

The project assessed disaster risks to critical infrastructure in transport, health, and education, focusing on resilience and strategic planning. Its findings guide targeted interventions in vulnerable coastal regions facing escalating environmental challenges and climate-related threats.

2

The study examined key hazards—floods, cyclones, and coastal erosion—that threaten infrastructure stability and disrupt essential services along Thailand’s eastern and western seaboards. Its findings support resilience strategies to safeguard critical sectors against escalating environmental risks.

3

The study categorized districts into very high, moderate, and low-risk levels, offering critical insights for infrastructure planning, disaster preparedness, and coastal protection. These findings help prioritize mitigation efforts, ensuring safer, more resilient development in vulnerable regions
