Multi-Hazard Resilience Assessment for Marginalized Coastal Communities in USA

Implementing Partner: Build Change

Project name: Multi-Hazard Resilience Assessment of Marginalized Coastal Communities under Changing Climate

This project addresses rising coastal vulnerability to climate-driven geophysical and meteorological threats. Using a dynamic multi-hazard resilience framework, it simulates complex risk scenarios and assesses physical, social, and economic impacts.

By integrating adaptive and inclusive strategies, the project supports equitable, long-term resilience planning. Its outcomes strengthen infrastructure, secure livelihoods, and enhance coastal well-being amid intensifying and interconnected environmental challenges.

Impact and Key Findings

1

The project develops a scenario-based disaster modelling tool that enhances preparedness in coastal communities, equipping them to anticipate and adapt to escsalating climate-related risks through informed planning and targeted resilience strategies.

2

The study examines intersecting physical, social, and economic vulnerabilities to identify high-risk coastal communities, guiding the development of targeted strategies that enhance protection for marginalized groups and strengthen resilience against climate-related threats.

3

The findings support equitable adaptation planning through tailored recommendations that strengthen local capacities, protect livelihoods, and promote long-term resilience in the face of diverse, climate-induced hazard risks affecting vulnerable coastal communities.
