Flood Resilient Hydraulic Design of Bridges Exposed to Climate Change in India

Implementing Partner: Build Change

Project name:Flood Resilient Hydraulic Design of Bridges Exposed to Climate Change in India

This project evaluates flood analysis techniques, demonstrating that L-moments outperform traditional methods in accuracy.

As India expands its highways and railways, resilient bridge design is crucial for adapting to unpredictable climate patterns.

By incorporating advanced flood assessments, engineers can enhance structural safety, ensuring long-term reliability. This approach reduces risks, safeguards communities, and strengthens infrastructure resilience, supporting sustainable transportation networks amid evolving environmental challenges and intensifying flood hazards.

Impact and Key Findings

1

The study models climate change effects on design floods and hydraulic variables at bridge sites using downscaled future scenarios. This method improves understanding of evolving river dynamics, enhancing bridge design accuracy for greater resilience against changing flood patterns.

2

Hydraulic modeling simulated multiple flood scenarios to assess future climate impacts on bridge sites. These insights help engineers refine bridge designs, enhancing resilience against intensified flood risks while ensuring long-term structural integrity, safety, and adaptability in evolving environments.

3

The methodology serves as a strategic guideline for bridge planning and construction, integrating climate change projections to optimize hydraulic design. By enhancing resilience and performance, it ensures bridges withstand evolving flood patterns, supporting long-term infrastructure sustainability and safety.
