The Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Global Initiative on Disaster Risk Management (GIDRM), Germany on 22 March 2022 to work in partnership for the promotion of disaster resilient infrastructure. The Global Initiative on Disaster Risk Management (GIDRM) was commissioned by Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) to support selected decision-makers, regional organizations and initiatives in Southern Africa, Asia, and Latin America in strengthening their capacities and skills to use risk-informed development while taking account of context-specific fragility factors.
The MoU will enhance cooperation on disaster and climate resilient infrastructure with the aim to address the challenges of building resilience into infrastructure systems in countries across Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Small Island Developing States. The partnership will support risk and resilience assessments of critical infrastructures and promote risk-informed fiscal planning, and investments in disaster resilient infrastructure (DRI) to strengthen infrastructure governance among partner countries of CDRI and GIDRM.
This partnership will be driven through research, technical support, capacity building, knowledge and information exchange, and advocacy. The MoU also aims to augment public awareness on the importance of DRI through dialogues, cross learning and sharing of best practices, technical workshops, and conferences. Further, CDRI and GIDRM will jointly identify emerging opportunities to build technical and institutional capacities, at the national and sub-national levels, to support the development and implementation of plans and projects on DRI.
