Project name: Strengthening the Capacity of Power Sector Practitioners in the Indo-Pacific Region: Technical Workshop under the Quad Infrastructure Coordination Group

The Quad Infrastructure Coordination Group (QICG) Technical Workshop, held in New Delhi in 2024, was organized by CDRI and the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, to enhance power sector resilience against climate and disaster risks in the Indo-Pacific.

Global experts from NREL (USA), EPRI (USA), JICA (Japan), India’s Ministry of Power, and other international organizations participated.

Delegates visited India’s National Load Despatch Centre and the world’s longest 800 kV multi-terminal HVDC transmission project in North India for real-world examples.

Through dynamic sessions, site visits, and expert-led discussions, delegates examined best practices in risk assessment, resilience planning, financing mechanisms, and regulatory frameworks, fostering collaboration and innovation to strengthen the power sector’s ability to address disaster risks.

Key highlights included an in-depth presentation on the Global Infrastructure Risk Model and Resilience Index (GIRI), valuable insights from India’s power sector projects, and collaborative knowledge sharing on embedding resilience throughout the entire power infrastructure lifecycle.

The workshop strengthened regional collaboration, promoted resilience tools, and launched a Community of Practice for sustained engagement, advancing efforts toward robust, future-ready power systems across the Indo-Pacific. It marked a pivotal step in infrastructure resilience and innovation.

Before joining CDRI, Alpana held senior leadership roles at The George Institute for Global Health, Plan India, WaterAid India, and SOS Children’s Villages, leading institutional fundraising and cultivating strategic partnerships for social impact. 

She holds a Master’s in Finance & Control from Aligarh Muslim University and completed Executive Education at Harvard Business School (CSR India). Her work is driven by a commitment to building enduring, values-based partnerships that accelerate sustainable development outcomes.
