Krishna Vatsa

Krishna S. Vatsa is at present working as Recovery Advisor, Bureau for Policy and Programme Support (BPPS), UNDP in New York. He joined UNDP in 2007 as Early Recovery Coordinator in the Philippines. He subsequently served as the Regional Disaster Reduction Advisor, South & South-West Asia in New Delhi from 2008 to 2014.

Krishna has worked in the area of post-disaster recovery and disaster risk management since 1995. As a career civil servant, he joined the Maharashtra Emergency Earthquake Rehabilitation Programme in the state of Maharashtra, India in 1995, and implemented a large-scale earthquake recovery programme during the next four years. He has also served as Secretary to the Government of Maharashtra, Relief and Rehabilitation from 2003 to 2006, and then as Secretary, Rural Development & Local-Self Department from 2006 to 2007. Krishna has extensively consulted for several national and international organizations in the area of disaster risk management and recovery.

Krishna’s education includes a B.A. (Honours) in Political Science (Patna University), a Post-graduate Diploma in Journalism (Indian Institute of Mass Communication, New Delhi), an M.A. in International Business and Economic Development (University of Reading, Reading, U.K.), and a Doctor of Science in Risk Management (George Washington University, USA).
